Becky Bowen, OTR/L

Hello! My name is Becky. I am a licensed Occupational Therapist and a mom to a 9 year old autistic son, and a 6 year old neurotypical son.
When my oldest son was diagnosed autistic around his 4th birthday, I was told that his challenges would be even more obvious if we weren’t so good at accommodating his sensory needs. At the time, I didn’t know that I was doing anything special. Since then, I have realized how much my training as an OT impacts how I parent.
Over the years I have continued to grow my knowledge of sensory processing, and continued to adapt our house to meet the sensory needs of my children. I have found that even small changes can have a profound impact on our entire household.
I’m excited to share this knowledge with you!

FAQs
Are you a licensed OT?
Yes! I graduated from Rush University with a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy. I am a licensed and registered OT in the state of Oregon with 15 years of clinical experience. I have continued my education with a variety of courses focused on Sensory Processing and related diagnosis.
Do you accept insurance?
At this time I only accept private pay
Can I hire you as my child’s Occupational Therapist?
My business model is consultation only, I am currently not offering regular therapy services. Likewise, I cannot provide any diagnosis or formal Sensory Processing evaluations.
Does my child need to have a diagnosis (ADHD, SPD, ASD, etc)?
Absolutely not! Everyone has sensory processing needs, and we can all benefit from some environmental modifications. If you feel like you are struggling to meet your child’s needs, I would love to work with you regardless of diagnosis.
Will I have to do major remodels or home changes?
You can do as much or as little as you want! My assessments are all individually tailored to meet the needs of your entire family. I generally provide suggestions that range from simple and inexpensive, to more involved ideas. You can pick and choose what you want to incorporate into your home.
Will you hang swings or install other furniture?
I do not, but I am happy to collaborate with a handyperson.
Who will benefit?
Any family who is struggling to manage their child’s sensory needs. This may present as energy that is difficult to contain at home, challenges with transitions, unexplained or disproportionately large melt downs, or disorganized or easily overwhelmed children. Sensory issues can also impact daily activities, including troubles with dressing, eating, or bathing.
What can you expect during the assessment?
Before the assessment, I will carefully read through your intake questionnaire. Once we meet in person, I will walk through your home with you, discussing problem areas and potential solutions. The entire in person process will take roughly 60-90 minutes.
What happens after the assessment?
I will provide you with a written report of my suggestions, as well as links for any recommended purchases. I am available for 2 follow up phone calls or video chats, as well as available by email, if you have questions about how to implement the plans. Additional meetings can be arranged in a custom package.
